Open to all levels of dancer. Freestyle dancing no one knows who their partner will be. It could be someone you know or a complete stranger. Perhaps a good dancer or maybe not – it’s the luck of the draw on the day. This is a freestyle dancing competition.
Rules
In this category no one knows who their partner will be until they meet on the dance floor- they may be a complete stranger, they may not; that is the chance you take!
Couples will consist of 1 male, 1 female.
Couples will dance to music chosen by Britroc Ltd.
Judging will be based on style and musical interpretation. Couples are encouraged to dance until the end of their heat.
This is a freestyle round where a definite lead and follow must be demonstrated.
Airsteps will not be allowed; you are permitted to do a move where both feet leave the floor as long as one foot remains below the waist of your partner; it would be counted as an airstep if both feet were to be above the waist of your partner. Disqualification from the competition will be automatic should a couple attempt any airsteps.
Seducers and drops are permitted but should be delivered in a safe manner. No extra points will be awarded for these moves.
70% of dancing must be recognisable as Modern Jive.
In each round (with the exception of the final) a couple will be tapped on the shoulder to inform them they are through to the next round. In the final, points will be awarded for style and musical interpretation.
This category is open to anyone 16 years and over.
Judging Criteria
To help you get the most out of the competition the details below indicate what the judges are looking for and how you will be scored on your performance.

Marks available = 1 - 3
Musicality, Interpretation

Marks available = 1 - 5
Variety, Complexity
Is there a good variation of moves? Is the difficulty and complexity of the move relevant to the category the dancers have entered? Are the moves executed correctly? Do the moves flow?
Marks available = 1 - 5
Scoring
Each couple, trio and team will be marked individually. Not against the people you are dancing next to in your heat.
All the scores are entered into the computer and the competitors with the highest scores will be put through to the next round.
Dependent upon the number of judges the maximum score each competitor will vary. However the maximum number of points awarded to an entrant from any one judge is 18 points.
All scores will be recorded and any competitor can contact Britroc Ltd to find out how they did. They can also request feed back from the judges after the competition has ended.
